July Employee of the Month
Rebeca Villasenor
Rebeca Villasenor was nominated as employee of the month primarily for the excellent work she does maintaining Aztec Recreation payroll. As a result of her efforts contacting staff that have missed punches and keeping track of vacation and overtime, recreation administrators are frequently able to “sign off” before deadline. In addition, Rebeca is always willing to help with the other administrative tasks, special projects, and cover shifts at the info services desk or facilities when needed.
Rebeca has been part of the recreation team since 2005 and has worked in many positions at the ARC including Info Services representative, floor supervision, climbing wall supervisor and building services assistant. Her current position as payroll administrator is her favorite . She has held it since February 2007. Rebeca says she likes payroll the most because scheduling her shifts is easy, she enjoys the responsibility, and she enjoys working with the people in administration. For Rebeca the payroll deadline every two weeks for 250 recreation staff is not hard to meet.
Rebeca enjoys her perk of free ARC membership. She primarily does weight training, abs and cardio, but also takes Core Conditioning, Cycle or Turbo Kick classes. She said at one time she worked out more frequently but she has eased her expectations now and enjoys the workouts she gets two or three times per week.
Rebeca will begin an SDSU masters program pursuing Mathematics in Education pursuant to her May 08 bachelors in math. She is currently researching internships to tutor at the high school level with a goal of being a Community College Professor.
For fun, Rebeca paints. She likes to do landscapes using acrylics and gets her vision for a painting from photos or images in her mind. She says it suits her because she is a home body.
June Employee of the Month
Christina Tyndall
Christina was nominated as employee of the month because of her great attitude, flexibility in scheduling, ability to take high-level responsibility and her skills as a team leader. She started working for Aztec Recreation in fall 2007 as an ARC Team Challenge ropes course facilitator. After being a part of the program for a semester she became interested in the Aztec Adventures Outings program and started leading trips. She continues to do both roles; each demands a high level of responsibility for both safety and creating a positive fun experience for each individual. Christina says she really enjoys the work because she is able to see individuals grow together in a short amount of time. She says that people are often capable of a lot more than they think.
When Christina has time to enjoy the ARC she likes to climb at the wall or take a Group Fitness yoga class. She is a 5th year SDSU undergrad pursuing a double major in Business Management, with an emphasis in entrepreneurial management, and Child Family Development.
May Employee of the Month
Cassidy Runyan
Sport Club Intern
Cassidy started working for the Aztec Recreation Sport Club program in July 2007. She was recruited by the department since she was effective at managing player paperwork as the previous Vice President of the SDSU Women’s Club Soccer Team. She really likes the job because it is intertwined with her interests in sports management and marketing. Cassidy is a 4th year integrated marketing communications major. She says it’s great to have the convenience of working on campus, too, because she is able to schedule her shifts around classes.
In the late spring, soccer is off season and the team only practices once-per-week, giving Cassidy opportunity to take a weekly Group Fitness class. She likes Kellie’s total toning/conditioning class on Tuesdays. Even though it’s off season she works out every day doing weight training 3 to 4 days per week; switching between upper and lower body sessions. She also does cardio after each weight training session and finishes her workouts with abs. She starting lifting with the athletic trainer from high school and has also gained knowledge from strength coaches at her local gym during high school. She was interested in advancing her soccer in any way she could in high school and it worked. Cassidy is a forward and during her time on the team, the SDSU Women’s Club Soccer team won the 2006 National Championships in Tempe Arizona beating University of Colorado (2-1). In 2007 the team was, again, a national finalist, losing to Santa Barbara in the finals in double overtime.
This past year, Cassidy was President and Co captain of team. She conducted all the practices because the coach was not able to attend weekday session. Cassidy humbly says she good at “making sure everyone is organized.”
