Class Description:

The Adventure Leadership I course aims to instruct on the theoretical & practical application of principles of group development, dynamics, the essentials for facilitation, and technical high ropes course skills enhancing the skills necessary to derive learning through group initiatives in Challenge Course Technology. Course provides a comprehensive introduction for those new to facilitating team challenge/adventure programs. In order to complete Adventure Leadership I, students must attend, participate, and successfully complete the necessary assignments for 10 classroom sessions and a weekend training. The Registration Fee covers the cost of the course instruction and required weekend trip.

Class Description:

The Adventure Leadership II course instructs on the theoretical & practical application the advanced principles of group facilitation of high and low elements. Course builds on skills and concepts from Adventure Leadership I, and emphasizes high element rescue techniques, set up and take down strategies, equipment selection and care, and facilitation theory techniques. Course culminates in weekend high & low ropes course training.

Class Description:

This course provides an introduction to the basic concepts of backpacking. Students will attend six, one hour and 40 minute classroom sessions that include lecture and various related activities. Students will learn about the various types of backpacking, equipment, techniques, camping ethics/etiquette, trip planning/execution, map & orienteering skills, safety management & leadership theory. Students are required to attend a three or four day instructor-approved weekend adventure with Aztec Adventures. The Registration Fee of the weekend adventure ranges from $300 to $389 depending on the chosen trip.

Class Description:

This course introduces to the basic concepts of outdoor recreation first aid. For six, one hour and 40 minutes sessions and a required weekend trip, students will attend a lecture and participate in activities preparing individuals to attend the required weekend certification training. The comprehensive medical training course is designed for outdoor recreationalists or wilderness trip leaders who venture into moderately remote and challenging environments. Students will learn about personal & group safety, back county medical care, first aid techniques, and camping ethics.

Class Description:

This course introduces to the basic concepts of climbing. Students will attend ten, one hour and 40 minute classroom sessions that include lecture and various related activities. Students will learn about the various types of climbing forms/techniques, equipment, training, climbing ethics/etiquette, and trip planning, and practical skill application with a trip component. Students are required to attend an outdoor day climbing trip with Aztec Adventures. The Registration Fee is $160 covering course fees and the outing costs. If students want to experience an extended outdoor rock climbing experience, they can elect to attend the extended three day weekend outing for $359 instead of the day climbing trip.

Class Description:

This course provides the advanced concepts of climbing by transitioning from an indoor environment to an outdoor climbing environment. Students will attend six, one hour and 40 minute classroom sessions that include lecture and various related activities. Students will learn about the various types of climbing forms/techniques (specific to top-rope anchoring, lead-sport climbing), protective hardware, placement & use, climbing anchoring systems, climbing rest maneuvers/body movement, climbing ethics/etiquette, and trip planning, and practical skill application with a trip component. Students are required to attend a three day intermediate rock climbing weekend with Aztec Adventures. The Registration Fee of the weekend adventure is $359.
