SDSU Dance Team Auditions 2025

Our auditions will take place in April. The audition is INVITATION ONLY. Additional details regarding times and location of the audition will be made available to those who are invited. There are two ways to receive an invitation:
- Attend one of our recruitment clinics and potentially receive an invitation email after the clinic is completed.
- Video submission - requirements for the preliminary video will be made available in March. Upon receiving the video, dancers may or may not be extended an email invitation.
If you are to receive an invitation (either through our recruitment clinic or via preliminary video submission), your presence is mandatory, as the audition is IN PERSON. Videos will not be accepted in place of attendance at our April audition and no make-up auditions will be held.
Dance Team Requirements:
Technique:
All splits (right,left, middle)
Tilt leg hold
Basic leaps/jumps (calypso, turning disc, tilt, switch arabesque, toe touch)
Quint (on right side)
Two consecutive floats turns (in a la seconde)
Spot changing a la seconde turns (Spotting right and left)
R & L Aerial
Basic Hip Hop Tricks:
Kip up (straight and bent legs)
Headspring
Headspring to standing
Highly Recommended:
Snap down

Schedule/Availability Requirements:
The SDSU Dance Team is very active both on campus and throughout the San Diego community. We attend all home football games, men’s and women’s home basketball games as well as the occasional soccer, baseball, volleyball and lacrosse games. We provide spirit at on-campus events and enjoy participating in community service events. We practice three times a week, have team workouts, and attend Marching Aztecs band practice prior to every home football game. In addition, we are a highly competitive dance team that competes at a collegiate level. It is non-negotiable that you are available on weekends, during winter break, and for certain events/camps over the summer. If your school, work, or personal schedule will not allow for this please reconsider auditioning.
Eligibility:
You must be a regularly enrolled student and/or dual-admitted student with six (6) or more units of coursework at San Diego State University with a current Aztec Recreation Center membership. The Dance Team requires you to be enrolled for both the fall and spring semesters and capable of committing to the team from August 2025 to April 2026.
Payment:
There is an audition fee that must be paid before your audition videos are sent. If we have not received payment, your video will not be viewed regardless if we have received it.
