Frequently Asked Questions

You must be a regularly enrolled student at SDSU to be eligible to participate on the club ice hockey team. You also must carry a minimum of 6 units and maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA. Individuals enrolled through ALI (American Language Institute) or Open University are not eligible to participate.

Tryouts are usually held during the first two weeks of school at the Joan Kroc Center. Time and dates are to be announced.

The ACHA does not permit scholarships to be awarded to club ice hockey players nor does SDSU offer scholarships for club ice hockey.

Dues are currently $3,500 per player, but are subject to change.

SDSU plays in the ACHA's highly competitive WCHL Conference, at the Division 1 Level.

Assuming you have not played on any other college hockey team, you are typically eligible to play 5 seasons on the club ice hockey team. However, there are some instances if you have played at a much higher level where you may be restricted in the amount of time you are permitted to play. The number of games played varies each season, however, it is expected to be 20-25 regular season games. The team practices three times per week (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday) from 2-3:15 pm, at the Kroc Ice Center. There are workout and meeting times throughout the week as well.

The season starts in September and ends in March. There are usually no games during most of winter break, with the exception of games the last week of break.

Travel varies each season, however, at the Division 1 level, SDSU has traveled as far as the east coast. The WCHL conference consists of teams all across the Southwest and Midwest.
