ARC members choose any one-day non-credit MBAC Rec class per semester for just $5. These classes fill-up fast, so register early by calling (858) 488-1000. Choices include:

 

stand-up paddlingSTAND-UP PADDLING BASIC SKILLS

Stand up paddling has emerged as an easy and exciting way to combine a strong core workout with the enjoyment of being out on the water. In this fun and active experience, you will learn the fundamentals of stand up paddling including etiquette, safety, equipment, and paddling technique. Then set off on Mission Bay to put your new skills to the test. Once you have successfully completed our stand up paddling introductory course, you will be qualified to rent our boards on Mission Bay.

SUPCORE Yoga Bridge on the Stand Up PaddleboardSUPCORE® YOGA

Experience amazing yoga practice outdoors and on the water! Using stand up paddleboards as a floating mat, we will practice a sequence of asanas (yoga poses) on the flat water of Mission Bay. While no prior yoga experience is necessary, this practice will challenge your individual edges of flexibility, focus, strength, and balance. We will conclude with a relaxing savasana (meditation) and finally a short paddle back to shore.

SUPCORE® TRAIN

This is an intense and athletic class which consists of a strong distance paddle, soft sand run and sprint intervals, cadenced and interval paddle strokes. Prepare for a SUP race or just add this to your weekly fitness regimen.

SUPCORE® FIT

This is an active and challenging introduction to a unique workout using a stand up paddleboard. We will begin with a strong warm-up paddle and progress into fitness exercises covering all the major muscle groups followed by a series of stretches. Be ready to improve your SUP skills and accomplish a rigorous workout while enjoying fun on the water.

INTRODUCTION TO KAYAKING

Have fun learning the basics you need to know to paddle a kayak safely and effectively. Using sit-on-top kayaks, we will begin by learning how to control our boats. Next we will learn some maneuvers and techniques that make kayaking more fun and safe. Then we're off to tour Mission Bay for a chance to use our new skills in action. Be sure to wear clothes that are comfortable for swimming.

MOONLIGHT KAYAKINGMoonlight Paddle

Enjoy the beauty and romance of Mission Bay under a full moon! We will meet before sunset for an informal potluck barbecue (we supply the charcoal and grill, you bring your favorite item to cook). After a short skills session, we will launch at sunset for a pleasant paddle under the moon and stars. Please bring a change of clothes for after the trip (your paddling clothes may get damp) and we'll supply all the equipment. No prior paddling experience is necessary, so come join the fun!

surfingINTRODUCTION TO SURFING

Southern California has been synonymous with surfing and surf. Intended as an introduction to surfing, this session will briefly discuss the fundamentals of surfing and then charge the waves of Mission Beach. Novice surfers will have the opportunity to learn the basics and experience the thrill of riding a wave in a short time. This class is designed for anyone wanting to experience the sport and get a taste of the surfing lifestyle.

WAKEBOARDING AND WAKESKATE FREERIDE

For riders specifically looking to get pulled behind our our fleet of top-of-the-line Correct Craft 211 Air Nautiques. Instruction can be given to riders of all levels whether you are progressing on advanced skills or getting up on a board for the first time. Take this opportunity to ride with the finest equipment available including Liquid Force and O'Brien wakeboards.

 

RESTRICTIONS: Participants must be current ARC Members in good standing. Offer good only for one-day MBAC Rec Classes only. Based on availability; first come, first served. Member must register and pay MBAC in advance of class start date. Limit one class per semester. MBAC and ARC reserve the right to suspend or cancel the offer at any time for any reason.
