Q: What is the address at Rec Sports?
A:

The Rec Sports office and Racquetball courts are in Peterson Gym (PG) 196. We are right across the street from the entrance to the ARC. From the ARC entrance, cross 55th and continue to the end of the corridor. We are located through the corridor and on the right.

Q: How many Racquetball courts do you have?
A:


Rec Sports has 10 Racquetball courts. Equipment is available with a valid photo I.D.

Q: How many Driving Ranges do you have?
A:

There is one indoor Golf Driving Range inside a converted racquetball court. Equipment is available with a valid photo I.D.

A:

No, all activity is on a drop-in basis. People rarely have to wait.

Q: How do you play Racquetball?
A:

Players can request the abbreviated Racquetball rules located on the back of the Racquetball info sheet at the Rec Sports front office window. This info sheet can also be found at the literature racks in the ARC. Equipment is available with a valid photo I.D.

Q: What else does Rec Sports offer, aside from Racquetball?
A:

At Rec Sports you can play Handball, Wallyball or practice your golf swing in the indoor Driving Range. There is also a small workout studio. Equipment is available with a valid photo I.D.

Q: What is Handball?
A:

Handball is a competitive game in which either hand or either fist may be used to serve and return the ball. For a complete list of Handball rules, please ask one of the desk attendants at the Rec Sports front office window. Equipment is available with a valid photo I.D.

Q: What is Wallyball?
A:

Wallyball is indoor volleyball played in a Racquetball court. You may check out a special wallyball and net with a valid photo I.D. from the Rec Sports front office window. The net must be set up in one of the designated Wallyball courts. For a complete list of rules, please ask one of the desk attendants at the Rec Sports front office window.

Q: What kind of equipment do you have?
A:

Rec Sports has Racquetball racquets, Racquetballs, goggles, Handballs, golf clubs, golf balls, Wallyballs and Wallyball nets.

Q: What is the cost to check out equipment?
A:

It is free for ARC members, VIP card holders and guest/day pass holders to check out equipment at Rec Sports, as long as a valid photo I.D. is presented.

Q: Do I have to be an ARC member to play at Rec Sports?
A:

No. If you are not an ARC member, you can purchase a day pass or a VIP card at Membership Services in the ARC.

Q: What is a Day Pass?
A:

An ARC day pass gives you access to all ARC facilities including the gym, the bowling alley and the Racquetball courts. It costs $5 for SDSU students, $7.50 for SDSU affiliates, and $10 for community guests. It is valid for 24 hours. The pass is non-transferable. You can purchase day passes at Membership Services in the ARC.

Q: What is a VIP card?
A:

A VIP card may be purchased for $30. It is worth 10 visits to the Recreational Sports facility for eligible activities. The card can be purchased at Membership Services in the ARC. ONLY ONE PERSON PER CARD IS ALLOWED. VIP cards do not expire and they are non-transferable. VIP card holders must present a valid photo I.D. to enter the facility.

Q: Can I bring a friend?
A:

Absolutely. However, if your friend is not a member of the ARC, s/he must purchase a day pass or a VIP card. ONLY ONE PERSON PER CARD IS ALLOWED. Also, if you are an ARC member, you get one free guest pass per year. Before you head over to the Rec Sports facility, stop by Membership Services in the ARC to obtain the pass for your friend. S/he needs to be present with a valid photo I.D. to complete a liability waiver.

A:

If you are an ARC member, you get one free guest pass per year. To obtain the pass, your friend must be present with a valid photo I.D. to complete a liability waiver. These passes are good for one day’s use at the gym, bowling alley and Racquetball courts. You can redeem this pass at Membership Services in the ARC.

Q: What are all of the ARC facilities?
A:

The ARC facilities include the gym, the Aztec Center Bowling and Games, the Racquetball courts/Driving Range, and the Aztec Aquaplex.

Q: What is the Ladder Tournament?
A:


The Ladder Tournament is an interactive way for players to participate in an ongoing Racquetball tournament. Players challenge others to work their way up the ladder. The three levels include beginner, intermediate, and advanced. You pick your level and set match dates so you may feel comfortable with your skills and opponents. Players can sign up by visiting arc.sdsu.edu and clicking on the Racquetball link. When the Rec Sports page appears, fill out the gray form at the bottom of the page.

A:

Players report their wins to the Facilities G.A. who updates the ladders accordingly on a weekly basis.

Q: Can I practice Field Hockey or Badminton?
A:

No, only the activities permitted in the facility are Racquetball, Wallyball, Handball and golf (only in the Driving Range) to avoid damaging the walls and floors.

Q: What does the champion win?
A:

The winner receives an Intramural Sports Champion T-shirt and enjoys the status of Tournament Division Champion!

Q: When does the champion collect the prize?
A:

Winners may collect their prize at the ARC. The winner will be notificed by the Facilities G.A. when and the exact location you can pick them up.

Q: Can I bring my son or daughter—if s/he is under 18?
A:


Yes, however a legal guardian must fill out a liability waiver for themselves and an individual assumption of risk form for the minors using the facility. There is a maximum of two kids per adult on the same court. An adult must company minors at all time. Minors will not be charged to use the Rec Sports facility.

Q: Is there a dress code?
A:

Yes, participants must wear non-marking athletic shoes—no dark soled shoes are allowed—and shirts that cover their torsos. Also, goggles are highly recommended for eye-protection and are available for check-out with a valid photo I.D.
