Meet the Instructors


 

Bill Aaron : Running Instructor

Bill Aaron received his Bachelor of Science degree from San Diego State University in Exercise and Nutritional Sciences with an emphasis in Fitness, Nutrition & Health. He is Head Cross-Country Coach at Kearny High, has coached cross-country at the intercollegiate level, and coaches marathoners. A marathoner himself, his personal best is 3hr and 31 min. He is also currently president of the San Diego Track Club.


Kelly Harrison: Meditation Instructor

Kelly Harrison has been a meditation practitioner for 14 years, teaching in both New York and California for the past 3 years. She has studied a variety of faiths and traditions as well as studied with both Tibetan and Western Masters. The practice of meditation has brightened her life in such a profound way, that she would like to share what she has learned with others with similar interests. Currently she also teaches introductory classes in Pacific Beach.



Kent Lorenz, MS, CSCS, NSCA-CPT: Egoscue Method

Kent has been working with the Center for Optimal Health and Performance since 2004 when he started as a graduate assistant, and he graduated from San Diego State University with a Master’s degree in exercise physiology in 2005. As an exercise physiologist and strength and conditioning specialist, Kent has many years of experience working with a wide range of individuals, ranging from athletes to older adults. With an interest in optimizing performance through the use of functional anatomy and an innovative approach to training movements, Kent has been successful in helping people reach their individual training goals.

Kent is also a lecturer with the School of Exercise and Nutritional Sciences and is currently the program coordinator for the Center for Optimal Health and Performance where he assists with exercise testing, personal training, bone density assessment and various research projects.



Rick Johnson: Tennis
Rick is a USPTA certified tennis professional who has been teaching privately for over 25 years. He has extensive knowledge of all styles of play, including both the classical and the modern games. Rick specializes in detailed stroke analysis, precision fine-tuning and in developing simple but effective stroke production techniques that give every student a solid foundation upon which to further improve. Even if your tennis ambitions peak at recreational, Rick will provide you with a deeper understanding of the game, not only enhancing your on-court performance, but equipping you with a better trained eye to make watching advanced and even professional players more enjoyable.
 

Tim Mount: Judo/Jiu-Jitsu and Self Defense

Tim Mount has a black belt in Judo and is a certified coach through the United States Judo Association. He founded the Aztec Judo/Jiu-Jitsu Club in 2003 and was hired by SDSU as the self-defense instructor in 2005. He also teaches sexual assault prevention and self-defense seminars for the students of SDSU. In addition, Coach Mount is an experienced competitor and has won several regional judo and jiu-jitsu tournaments. 



Zephen Specht: Kung fu

Zephen Specht life in the martial arts began in 1998 while attending college in DeKalb, Illinois. From 1998 to 2004 he began the study of Tai Praying Mantis and Northern Shaolin Kung-Fun under Sifu Arthur Berry. During that time he was very active in the local martial arts tournaments and demonstrations. Then from 2004 to 2005 he studied with Mike Popovics at a mixed martial art school in Hot Springs, Arkansas. Zephen is currently teaching Kung-Fu at San Diego State University, California. http://yfmaa.com/home.html
