Lori Bednarchik, MPH, CHES
Health Educator
I am the resident Health Educator from the Health Promotion Department at Student Health Services. I am in a very unique and exciting position as I am able to bring SHS information, and other health resources and programs to students and staff at the ARC!
I provide monthly health and wellness tips through Axis TV, the Wellness Bulletin Board, and the ARC Newsletter. I am in charge of updating and maintaining the ARC Eating Disorder Protocol, coordinating Nutrition Counseling for ARC members, and providing general health and wellness information for members of the ARC. Overall, the collaboration and partnership with the ARC allows Health Promotion to extend their reach, and reminds students that being healthy is more than just going to the gym.
I am also adjunct faculty with the Graduate School of Public Health, one of my main responsibilities is teaching two of the Peer Health Education tracks: Nutrition & Physical Activity and FratMANers (Fraternity Men Against Negative Environments and Rape Situations). One of my passions has always been teaching, and I love that I get to do this as part of my job here at SDSU.
Prior to joining SDSU in 2007, I worked at The University of Maryland as a Graduate Assistant. I taught a few health-related classes while I was completing my graduate degree in Public Health. Upon completion of my degree, I obtained my CHES (Certified Health Education Specialist) certification, and personal training certification through American Council on Exercise (ACE). I relocated to San Diego upon graduating, and have been enjoying the sun and surf for almost two years now!
I am also one of the advisors for PATCH. In addition, I advise the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity on campus, and was recently awarded “Faculty Advisor of the Year.” I am involved with the PRICE (Preventing Rape by Intoxication Through Community Education) Coalition through the San Diego District Attorney’s Office, and am a member of Eta Sigma Gamma and the American Public Health Association.

Brynn Viale
Wellness Graduate Assistant
I have been involved in the Health Promotion Department at Student Health Services for the past 5 years!! 3 years ago I moved over to the ARC Wellness Center and have been loving it ever since! As an undergraduate, I became a Peer Health Educator in the Sexual Health program. I have always been passionate about health and jumped at the opportunity to educate my peers about college health issues!
When I began volunteering as a PHE my eyes were opened to all that the field of Public Health had to offer. I was hooked! I applied for my Master’s degree in Public Health and have continued to work at the ARC ever since!
As the Wellness Graduate Assistant, I am able to expand my knowledge to, not only sexual health, but nutrition, physical activity, body image and so much more! I provide health and wellness tips through Axis TV, the Wellness bulletin board, and contribute to the ARC e-newsletter, so be sure to check out my awesome articles on student wellness! I also assist Lori with the Nutrition and FratMANers Peer Health Education tracks and I continuously learn from the students that come through the training.
One of my major roles for ARC Wellness is to put on the annual Health Expo: The Road to Wellness. The expo had been absent from campus for nearly four years, but I reintroduced it in 2009 and it was a major hit! I was able to introduce over 20 wellness-related vendors and their services to the campus community as well as provide a ton of free samples fro Kashi, ONE Condoms and many more health conscious companies! Be on the lookout for the next health expo in Spring 2010!!
