RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network) Day is sponsored by FratMANers, and is RAINN’s annual campaign that encourages volunteers to raise awareness about sexual assault on campuses across the country. Members of FratMANers will be tabling on campus encouraging students to sign ‘RAINN drops’ taking a pledge against sexual violence. For more information call (619) 594-1800.
Say Boo to the Flu

Each October, students can get their flu shots not only at Student Health Services but at convenient on-campus locations as well. Check out the SDSU Student Health Services website for more information! (www.shs.sdsu.edu)
White Ribbon Campaign
Watch for this in December
The White Ribbon Campaign urges men to speak out against violence against women. Wearing a white ribbon is a personal pledge never to commit, condone nor remain silent about violence against women. Men are encouraged to wear a white ribbon starting on November 25th, the International Day for the Eradication of Violence Against Women until December 6th, Canada’s National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women and anniversary of the Montreal Massacre.
National Eating Disorders Awareness Day
Watch for this in February
Events held during this week strive to educate and create an overall awareness of eating disorders and exercise dependence, while focusing on how to build a better body image. On campus events as well as informational booths in the ARC hallway will increase student and ARC member awareness about these important issues. If you would like your organization to participate in this event, please contact the Health Educator at the ARC at 594-1800.
Sexual Assault Awareness Month
April
During the month of April, numerous events take place on campus in recognition of Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM). According to the California Coalition Against Sexual Assault (CALCASA), rape crisis centers throughout the nation agreed upon this time of year in the late 1980’s in order to coordinate efforts nationwide to educate and promote understanding about sexual assault and its prevention. Originally, there was only one week in October that brought attention to this movement, but as awareness and participation grew, it was clear that the Sexual Assault Awareness movement needed more than just 7 days. Several national organizations such as CALCASA, the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network (RAINN), and the National Sexual Violence Resource Center participate in spreading consciousness every year. On campus, the Women’s Resource Center, the National Organization for Women (NOW@SDSU), Peer Health Educators, and particularly Fraternity MANers (Fraternity Men Against Negative Environments and Rape Situations) are coordinating several events throughout the month to bring more consciousness to this serious issue.
Denim Day
Watch for this in April
Denim Day is organized by FratMANers (Fraternity Men Against Negative Environments & Rape Situations) and is held each April during Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Denim Day is an international protest of an Italian Supreme Court ruling dismissing the charges of rape because the victim was wearing jeans at the time of the attack. According to the court, jeans couldn’t be removed without help. The unpopular verdict became an international symbol of myth-based injustice for sexual assault victims. For a few weeks preceding Denim Day, FratMANers collects jeans to donate to the Center for Community Solutions, a local organization which provides free rape and domestic violence services to the San Diego community.
Take Back the Night
Watch for this in April
Take Back the Night is an evening rally supporting women everywhere and their right to feel safe walking alone at night. It is said that Take Back the Night began in 1877 when women protested fear and violence they experienced in the night-time streets of London, England. TBTN was introduced to the United States in 1978 in San Francisco, and the movement has since spread nationwide. Join Fraternity MANers and other campus participants in a march around campus followed by a candlelight vigil supporting rape survivors and acknowledging those on and around the campus community who play an active role in preventing sexual assault and violence against women.
