The Aztec Recreation Center (ARC) Wellness Center is a collaboration of the Associated Students Campus Recreation and SDSU Student Health Services. The Wellness Center offers ARC members and SDSU students a vast array of information on topics ranging from nutrition to violence prevention. All services are FREE to SDSU students and selected services are provided FREE to non-student ARC members.  Wellness services offered include:

Nutrition Information and Counseling

The Wellness Center at the ARC provides general nutrition counseling, offered by highly trained interns from the Exercise and Nutritional Sciences Department. The interns can help in areas such as weight loss and management, weight gain, vegetarian diets and other general nutrition needs. All services are free of charge. To get started, complete this form Nutrition Counseling Intake Assessment. Return the form to the ARC Information Services or the SDSU Health Promotion Office, 3rd floor, Calpulli. Once we review your form, we'll call you to set an appointment that works with your schedule.

Body Fat Testing

Please make your appointment in advance at the Information Services Desk to have your body fat tested.  Appointment times and days vary each semester so please check with Information Services, or call 619-594-0200.  Each appointment is scheduled for 15 minutes, and we ask that you wear loose fitting clothes (sweats, shorts, etc.).

This is a FREE service to all ARC Members and SDSU students.

Peer Health Education

SDSU students can actively promote wellness on campus by becoming Peer Health Educators (PHEs). PHEs present dynamic workshops to their SDSU peers that focus on various health topics and issues that affect the lives of students. In order to be a Peer Health Educator, you must successfully complete the Peer Health Education Training class. Students have the option of receiving course credit for participating in the PHE Program Training and for active participation in the PHE Program thereafter. please check this link for more information about the Peer Health Education Program and then call 619-594-4133 to join the team.

PATCH (Peer Advocates for Total College Health)

This student run organization is for all students (including freshmen and sophomores) interested in college health. P.A.T.C.H. members participate annually in the Breast Cancer and the Multiple Sclerosis Walks. Students can learn about careers in the health field while also socializing with other peers who are interested in this topic. It is also a stepping stone for the Peer Health Education Program.

PATCH meetings are held on Tuesdays at 5pm on the 4th floor of the Calpulli Center, Conference Room #3

Family Pact

Family PACT is a state program that provides free family planning services to low income men and women. The program's purpose is to provide the services you need to establish the timing, number of children, spacing of your children and to help you maintain reproductive health. These services are available here at SHS and at other clinics (e.g. Planned Parenthood) that are Family PACT program participants. You must be enrolled in the Family PACT program to receive free services and all services are completely confidential.

Smoking Cessation

The Health Promotion Department & Wellness Office offer individual tobacco cessation counseling for smoking and chewing tobacco. Counseling starts with a meeting with a trained Peer Health Educator with an emphasis on behavior modification techniques for quitting. Students will receive a Quit Kit with supplies to help them quit. The Peer Health Educator will follow up with the student to assess success, and to see if the student needs additional resources. Pharmacological treatment options are also available for those who desire them, but students should first meet with a Peer Health Educator for an initial screening session. HIV Information & Testing

We offer confidential HIV testing. This session covers testing procedures, facts and information regarding prevention of HIV. If you are interested in HIV testing visit the Health Promotion Department (3rd Floor, Ste. 3201) during our scheduled testing times. It takes about 15 minutes and your results will be available in 4-10 days. You can also be tested at a regular appointment with one of our health care providers.

Women’s Health (Orientation Schedule)

Our GYN Orientations are comprehensive sessions that discuss Pap smears, birth control, breast exams and other women's health topics. Sessions specifically for lesbian women (LGYN) and their particular health issues are also available.

Sessions last approximately 75 minutes and are required for women who have never had an annual exam and/or wanting to start on a birth control method for the first time. No appointments are needed, just show up at our scheduled times.
