The ENS 700 Field will be renovated to include converting the natural turf to synthetic turf, adding LED sports lighting, and enhancing the surrounding landscaping and seat walls.
The primary goal of this project is to meet the needs of students for additional recreation space as the limited field space on campus is in high demand. Through conversations and evaluation of students’ needs, it was determined that adding lights will greatly expand opportunities to use the field outside of daylight hours. While natural grass requires several weeks of down time annually for the grass to recover, a synthetic surface can generally accommodate more than three times the amount of use than a grass field.
The field will be available for drop-in play as well as a host of programmed recreational activities including Aztec Recreation fitness classes, Intramural Sports leagues, Sport Clubs, ENS credit classes, and other campus activities.
The project is scheduled to begin May 1st and completed fall semester 2019.
