Class Description:

This course examines the theory and techniques of women’s self-defense. Content focuses on methods of recognizing and avoiding dangers, as well as the acquisition of skills and strategies of an effective physical defense. Students should expect to fall, grab, kick, and strike. Loose comfortable workout clothes required, no street clothes or jeans allowed.

Class Description:

This course will provide the student with skills and knowledge necessary to begin participation in Judo safely. Beginning competition strategy and tactics will be covered. Beginning skill instruction and application of Nage-waza (Throwing), Osae-waza (Grappling/Submission), as well as progressive drills and Randori (Free Exercise) are practiced. Students will be eligible to test for the next Judo belt rank (Yellow) during the semester. 

All Aztec Recreation ENS Judo courses examine the theory and techniques of Kodokan & Kosen Judo. Classes also identify the difference in contest rules between IJF Judo (Olympic) and the Freestyle Judo movement. Content focuses on skills required to develop confidence and skill in the worlds most played martial art sport. Students should expect to fall, grab, throw, and practice joint locks, pins and chokes. Loose comfortable workout clothes are required, no street clothes or jeans are allowed.

Class Description:

Instruction in the practice of Martial Arts with an emphasis on safe body movements and practical self-defense.  Conditioning, flexibility and repetition of movement will be promoted to aid the student in the development of proper techniques for self-defense and enhanced fitness.  While Tae Kwon Do will be the core of study, several other martial arts styles will be introduced throughout the semester. After completion of the course, the student will have basic knowledge and skills that will allow for continued exploration of the martial arts.  It is hopeful that students will leave this course with valuable lessons that they can apply directly to their studies and everyday life.

Class Description:

Jiu Jitsu is a Brazilian martial art subset of submission grappling and wrestling. It has evolved over thousands of years like all wrestling related systems, and is now a popular sport. This is a no Gi Jiu Jitsu program for all levels. No Gi simply means wearing shorts and a t-shirt while practicing. This class will challenge you both physically and mentally, with martial arts exercises, drills, and self-defense techniques. This class is for all ages, sizes, and genders to train where you can learn at your own pace in a positive and safe environment.

Class Description:

Intermediate Jiu Jitsu will expand on submission, grappling and wrestling techniques. Students can expect a fast learning environment condutive to students with previous training in Jiu Jitsu. Students will be given more opportunities for rolling and encouraged to begin training for competition.
