Maintain a cheerful attitude even when things don’t go according to plan

Follow the leadership of other Aztec Adventure Staff
Enjoy teaching others formally and informally
Successfully complete both ENS 138 Beginning & Intermediate Adventure Leadership I & II Courses.
It is very important for all of our staff to possess the interpersonal skills to lead, facilitate and manage small groups.
Successfully complete any one or all of the following ENS 138 or 139 Courses: Backpacking; Camping & Outdoor Skills; River Canoeing & Camping; Beginning Rock Climbing
These courses will provide you with the minimum skill competencies needed to train for paid leadership positions.
Obtain a Standard First Aid, CPR and AED Certification to start
Complete all required Aztec Recreation and A.S. Employee Training
Successfully complete the Aztec Adventures Driver Training Program
Obtain a California Commercial Driver’s License (Class B) with Passenger Endorsement
Participate fully in bi-weekly staff trainings on Monday evenings 7:30-9:00pm
Participate fully in overnight-weekend staff training trips
Participate fully in weeklong or longer staff trainings during winter and summer breaks
Please note that there is a cost to nearly all of the trainings and certifications listed above. New leaders can expect to initially spend over $300.00 training and obtaining certifications. Once a staff member becomes a Primary Outings Leader (Paid) they are eligible for monetary reimbursement of 80% of their fees.
Successfully complete Outings Leader Training Requirements for each trip you desire to lead
Obtain, as a minimum, Wilderness First Aid Certification through a recognized provider.
Obtain above average endorsements and feedback from the Primary Leader of all trips you are assisting with (Secondary Leader).
Complete Aztec Adventures - Leave No Trace - Training
Take a leadership/instructor role in bi-weekly staff trainings on Monday evenings 7:30-9:00pm
Take a leadership/instructor role in weekend and winter/summer break trainings.
Please note that once a staff member becomes a Primary Outings Leader (Paid) they are eligible for monetary reimbursement of 80% of their certification and training fees.
