SDSU Dance Team Video Audition Submission
Introduction:
In 30 seconds or less please introduce yourself. State your name, age, and acceptance status. Tell us briefly why you want to audition to be a member of the SDSU Dance Team.
Technique:
Legs - Please film a video of yourself doing battements on the right and left, including tilts, leg extensions and leg hold turns.
Leaps - 3 Leaps of your choosing.
Pirouettes - 5 pirouettes on your right side. Please do each three times without stopping the video.
A La Secondes - A turn combo of your choosing. You can incorporate floats, spot changes and leg variations.
Tricks - Video your right and left aerials. Please include any additional tumbling or hip hop tricks that you have.
* Please reference our mandatory requirements on our website and incorporate skills on the list in your technique videos.
Combo:
Jazz combo (:45 - 1:00) - This can be a combo you have learned or performed previously. It can be pre-recorded but should not have anyone else in the video. It should incorporate both style and technique. Please make sure it does not exceed 1 minute in length.
Hip Hop combo (:45- 1:00) - This can be a combo you have learned or performed previously. It can be pre-recorded but should not have anyone else in the video. Let us see your personality and style. Please make sure it does not exceed 1 minute in length.
Payment:
Please click the link below to pay to submit your video. All video entries are $25. Your video will not be viewed until payment is received.
Submission Deadline:
All video submissions are due by April 4th at midnight. Any videos submitted after that will not be viewed. Please send your video to sdsudanceteamauditions24@gmail.com. In the subject line please put your first and last name. If you send as a YouTube link please make sure it’s unlisted and that you have shared viewing access.
Auditions:
Our 2024 auditions are invite only. If you are to receive an invitation (either through our recruitment clinic or via preliminary video submission), your presence is mandatory, as the audition is IN PERSON. Videos will not be accepted in place of attendance at our April audition. We will send out invitations by April 8th. Auditions will be held on April 20th & 21st. If you do not receive an invitation please consider auditioning again in 2024.
In-Person Audition (if selected)
April 20th & 21h
Our auditions will take place in April. The audition is INVITATION ONLY. Additional details regarding times and location of the audition will be made available to those who are invited. There are two ways to receive an invitation:
1. Attend one of our recruitment clinics and potentially receive an invitation email after the clinic is completed.
2. Video submission - requirements for the preliminary video will be made available in March. Upon receiving the video, dancers may or may not be extended an email invitation.

Tilt leg hold
Basic leaps/jumps (calypso, turning disc, tilt, switch arabesque, toe touch)
Quint (on right side)
Two consecutive floats turns (in a la seconde)
Spot changing a la seconde turns (Spotting right and left)
R & L Aerial
Basic Hip Hop Tricks:
Kip up (straight and bent legs)
Headspring
Headspring to standing

Schedule/Availability Requirements:
The SDSU Dance Team is very active both on campus and throughout the San Diego community. We attend all home football games, men’s and women’s home basketball games as well as occasional soccer, baseball and volleyball games. We provide spirit at on campus events and enjoy participating in community service events. We practice three times a week, have team workouts and attend Marching Aztecs band practice prior to every home football game. In addition, we are a highly competitive dance team which competes at a collegiate level. It is non-negotiable that you are available on weekends, winter break and for certain events/camps over the summer. If your school, work or personal schedule will not allow for this please reconsider auditioning.
Eligibility:
You must be a regularly enrolled student and/or dual-admitted student with six (6) or more units of coursework at San Diego State University with a current Aztec Recreation Center membership. The Dance Team requires you to be enrolled for both fall and spring semester and capable of committing to the team from August 2023 to April 2024.
Payment:
There is an audition fee that must be paid prior to your audition videos being sent. If we have not received payment, your video will not be viewed regardless if we have received it.
